When Brad Scott was named the head baseball coach
at his alma mater Mesabi Range College back in the fall of 2001, he had
lofty goals. In his five seasons as mentor of the Norse, he has achieved
many of those goals. Last season culminated with a 32-4 record and the
school’s first ever Northern Division and Minnesota Community
College Conference State Championships. This should come as
no surprise as Mesabi Range has shown steady improvement under Coach
Scott each season that he has been the head coach.
A native of Aurora, Minnesota, Scott played one season each at Itasca Community College and Mesabi Range before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Superior where he was a two year starter at shortstop for the Yellowjackets. He was voted two-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 1 st team 2000 and 2001. Scott graduated from UW-Superior in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Fitness and Sports Management.
Upon completion of his collegiate playing days, Coach Scott played professional baseball in the Northern League for two different organizations – the Duluth-Superior Dukes (2001) and the Gary (IN) Rail Cats (2002). Scott was also served on the coaching staff of the Duluth-Superior Dukes as a bullpen coach in 2002.
In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Scott serves as an instructor
in the Physical Education and Health Department at Mesabi Range and is
the general manager and co-owner of the Iron Wood Bat Company. He is
married to the former JoJo Biondich of Eveleth, Minnesota, who serves
as the Mesabi Range head women’s volleyball coach and director
of student activities. Brad and JoJo just had their first children born
on September 18th 2008, "twins" a daughter Mayme and a son
Cal. They reside in Eveleth.
