Transfer Information

We are a part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system (MnSCU) which means we use the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) to help make transferring as easy as possible for students.

The MnTC is built into the AA Degree. Once you finish your MnTC at Mesabi Range and complete your AA or AAS Degree you are able to transfer right into the program of your choice at a four-year college.

Another benefit of the MnSCU system is if you transfer between MnSCU colleges and universities there is no need to request an official college transcript. Mesabi Range College uses e-transcripts which are shared within the system. Transferring from a college or university outside the MnSCU system is when an official college transcript will be required.

*It is important to note that when transferring, the receiving institution decides what credits will transfer and if the courses fit the requirements for the program.

Liberal Arts & Technical Courses
Liberal Arts and elective credits do not have a time limit for transfer. However, due to the ever changing technology and regulations, technical credits have a lifespan of 5 years to keep our students up-to-date with industry standards. Mesabi Range's Virginia Campus shall accept for transfer as electives a maximum of 16 semester credits of college level occupation or professional courses offered by Minnesota Technical Colleges with regional accreditation.

Regional accreditation for this policy is defined as the accreditation conferred by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and by parallel accreditation agencies in other regional areas of the United States.

Transferring credits granted by a regionally accredited institution -  Regionally accredited institutions are colleges or universities that are accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation www.chea.org. Mesabi Range College will accept credits granted by a regionally accredited institution, including credits granted by another college or university for prior learning by assessment or examination (credit for prior learning).

Transferring credits granted by a non-regionally accredited institution -  Non-regionally accredited institutions are colleges or universities that are not accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation www.chea.org. Mesabi Range College shall determine if it will accept credits granted by a non-regionally accredited institution through prior learning assessment or examination (credit for prior learning).

Military Credits
Credit or waiver of credit will be authorized using "A Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services," after evaluation by a transfer credit evaluator. For more information on Veteran services, please visit: Veteran's Resources.

Transfer Resources

Transferology is a nation-wide network designed to help you answer the question "Will my courses transfer?" You may enter coursework, exams, and/or military learning experiences, then discover in a single click how many schools in the Transferology network have matching courses that may be awarded when you transfer. Schools are ranked by the percentage of coursework they accept in transfer, though you may focus the results with a number of handy filters and sorts, including how your courses transfer into a specific program at another college or university. Details of how those courses will count are available with another click or two, and you can inform schools of your  interest in transferring by asking about specific programs, campus visits, and/or coursework that has not yet been evaluated by the school.”

“One great feature in Transferology is the ability to import the courses you have taken at MnSCU institutions to monitor your progress toward a selected degree, certificate or MnTC program at other MnSCU institutions. Note that using this feature will require that you log in to eServices for each MnSCU institution you have attended. You MUST log out from one session before you proceed to the next session.”

The Minnesota Transfer Action plan will help you explore the transfer process. The plan will also help you navigate the resources available to you as you go through transfer.
