Federal Direct Student Loans
Apply for a Direct Student Loan at Mesabi Range
Go to: www.StudentLoans.gov and sign.
Step 1. Complete Entrance Counseling
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED ENTRANCE LOAN COUNSELING FOR MESABI RANGE COLLEGE, GO TO “COMPLETE Master Promissory Note”
Step 2. Complete the Promissory Note
Step 3. Complete & Return the Student Loan Request Form
Click: Student Loan Request Form print the form and return it completed to the Financial Aid Office. You can mail the form to Financial Aid, 1001 Chestnut St. W., Virginia, MN 55792, fax this form to 218-749-0318 or send a scanned copy via email attachment to l.hansen@mr.mnscu.edu or j.pontinen@mr.mnscu.edu.
Things you should know
- You will need your PIN issued by the Department of Education for the FAFSA (if you don’t have your PIN #,go to www.pin.ed.gov)
- You will need your Driver’s license number
- You will need names, addresses, and phone numbers for two references at separate addresses.
- Your award letter will advise you of your eligibility. You may always decline all or part of your loan.
- Sometimes you can increase your eligibility by declining work-study. Contact the financial aid office to discuss your options.
- You must be enrolled in 6 or more credits to receive a student loan. Your loan eligibility may be adjusted down if other sources of financial aid are awarded.
- All new incoming students, first-time Direct Loan borrowers or transfer students attending Mesabi Range College for the first time must complete loan entrance counseling.
- All new incoming students and transfer students attending Mesabi Range College will have first their loan disbursement delayed 30 days.
- All loans are divided into two payments. (Full year enrollment ½ Fall & ½ Spring Semester) or (One semester enrollment ½ beginning of one term and½ mid-term)
