ATMX 1256 Engine Repair (3 Lec; 4 Lab; 7 Cr) This course includes the theory of operations, the cause and effect of different engine designs, and all repair and diagnostic procedures. Included are cylinder block, crankshaft, camshaft, valve and cylinder head inspection, and measurements.
ATMX 1257 Fuel Systems (1 Lec; 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course is the study of fuels and fuel alternatives. Fuel delivery, storage systems, and basic emission control systems are also studied.
ATMX 1261 Power Transmission (2 Lec; 3 Lab; 5 Cr) Power transmission is the study of gear types and how they relate to torque. Also studied will be drive axle, clutch and drive line, four wheel drive systems, and all wheel drive. Manual transmission and transaxle diagnostic and repair procedures are also covered.
ATMX 1271 Brakes (3 Lec; 2 Lab; 5 Cr) This course includes the study of drum and disc brakes, power brake and emergency brake operation. Also covered are repair procedures and anti-lock brake operation. Prerequisite: ATMX 1255
ATMX 1272 Automatic Transmissions and Transaxles (2 Lec; 3 Lab; 5 Cr) This automatic transmission and transaxle course will include the theory of operation for automatic transmission, transaxles, and torque converters. Also included are overhaul and diagnostic procedures. Prerequisite: ATMX 1261, ATMX 1255
ATMX 2255 Advance Wheel Alignment, Suspension and Steering (1 Lec; 2 Lab; 3 Cr) This course is a study of advanced wheel alignment, suspension, and steering. This course covers steering and suspension systems, operation, and service. Includes FWD, RWD, and 4 x 4 alignments.
ATMX 2256 Basic Electrical Systems, Batteries, and Electronics (1 Lec; 3 Lab; 4 Cr) This course covers basic electrical and electronic theory, wiring diagrams and electronic diagnosis of electrical systems.
ATMX 2257 Emissions (1 Lec; 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course is designed to help students understand basic emission systems and 4-gas analyzer operation to help in the repair and diagnosis of vehicles.
ATMX 2261 Intro to Auto Computers (1 Lec; 3 Lab; 4 Cr) The purpose of this course is to understand basic automotive computer inputs-output diagnostic routine and operation. Prerequisite: ATMX 2256
ATMX 2262 Advanced Auto Computers (1 Lec; 3 Lab; 4 Cr) This course will teach the student advanced computer control systems, lab scope, and OBD II diagnostic routine. Prerequisite: ATMX 2261
ATMX 2265 Shop Management (1 Lec; 1 Cr) This course provides instruction on employer/customer satisfaction, shop ethics, customer and employee expectations, selling, phone skills, shop etiquette, and telephone skills.
ATMX 2275 Basic Drivability (2 Lab; 2 Cr) This course covers basic procedures, special diagnostic tools, and manuals. It helps students develop logical automotive diagnostic skill. Prerequisite: ATMX 2256, ATMX 2261
ATMX 2276 Advanced Air-Conditioning/Heating (2 Lec; 2 Lab; 4 Cr) This course teaches inspection, service, repair of air conditioning and heating systems, theory, and on-vehicle diagnostics. The student will be certified to handle refrigerant after completion of this course. Prerequisite: ATMX 2256
ATMX 2277 Production Shop (4 Lab; 4 Cr) This course will enable students to perform automotive production work, recording flat rate, filling out repair orders, and assuring customer satisfaction. Prerequisite: All other second year coursework
